Insights on Depression and Coping Strategies

I have very little research about depression. But merely, I have understood that it is a medical illness and not just boredom or grief from loss of a loved one. It can affect anyone even when a person appears to be in relatively perfect situation. Just like those celebrities who suffered from depression. Anthony Bourdain and Kate Spade were among the recent ones who committed suicide. Uncountable questions may arise as to why did they do such terrible thing. They have Fame, Money, and who knows what else. We did not know, because a person suffering from depression still looks normal. They can still be seen smiling and laughing or even crack a joke. I was supposed to post a different blog about Depression , few months back. But I ought to keep it in private. Now, a part of me is urging to say something about this phase of life that I am in. Let us see what has to say:

What is Depression?

I will be open in this blog post. I experienced extreme sadness and lacked interests in the usual activities I have been doing. I sleep most of the time. I also felt of no value and at present still feeling the same sometimes. And the sad truth is, there are times that I just want to die. I am not as successful as Kate Spade or Anthony Bourdain, but I can say, I have been living a life with love and care. I am not alone. I am happy with my 3 kids and my husband is supportive with my endeavors. What happened? I myself cannot answer but I have clues. Personal issues, predicaments, health issues, loss of my father and challenges in life are some of the reasons.

I consulted a psychologist in December 2017. I undergone a couple of psychological tests and consultation. Each consultation lasted for 2 hours or so. The psychologist I consulted did not want her name to be mentioned. I respect that. According to the psychologist, I have a Depression bordering Clinical Depression. I do not need to intake medicine yet. There were some suggestions which I will keep in private.

How am I coping? In February 2018, I started gardening/planting. A friend, Analyn Dela cruz introduced me these lovely plants. I am extending my gratefulness to her. I might not be able to write this blog at all if not for those plants. I started to collect Cactus and Succulents. They are very therapeutic. I spend hours and hours at the little space we have in the front yard. Sometimes until 1 o’clock in the afternoon. I turned bronze! But I love it. I also joined an association who guides with every step of care on Cactus and Succulents. The Cactus and Succulents Society of the Philippines Inc. helped me without them knowing that they do not only make people happy, but they can also save a life. As of now I have more than 100 different cactus and succulents. They are amazing. I never knew that gardening is therapeutic. There is a sense of fulfillment. I remember my grandfather Tatay Osong. He was a green thumb person. It could have been an enjoyable moment if we plant together. I also encouraged my kida to plant a Sunflower. I will write a more focused blog on this. Standby.

Another thing, I learned a company which provides better health and income at the same time. I just started and willing to continue until I get best results. Let us see.

Change of environment is another coping strategy. We moved in the south area and so far is better than where we came from. We live near everything such as malls, hospital, grocery stores, repair shops and others.

To add, travelling could also be a great opportunity to fight depression. Your choice if with a group or alone. Whichever makes you happy. It does not have to be International trips. It can be local or even a bus away tour. Get a pen and pper now and liat down the places you wanna go to!

Lastly, meet your friends, family or relatives often times. Participate in group activities which can divert your thinking and emotions. It could be a Fun run, Expo, shopping, hiking, eat out in a buffet restaurant, or simply watch a movie. Make happy memories together.

It has been 6 months, I have to admit, I still do not feel well completely. I have to make myself busy to keep me away from my depression.

If you suspect yourself or anyone else suffering from depression, please do not take for granted. The symptoms above can tell. Depression is Real. It is NOT sadness. It is way far from it. Depression on my own definition is a collective emotions and  thoughts anxieties. It is also in our unconsious mind. Or maybe it is under defined. Trust me, there is more to that.

What is your story? Do not be afraid. We might be able to help you. Let us go hand in hand in fighting this battle.

Implanon Removal After Almost 3 Years – Philippines

From my post almost 3 years about Implanon Insertion, here is the sequel; Implanon Removal. Since, the effectivity is 3 years, it is near its expiration date. I had to remove it and decided to switch to DMPA or commonly known as the Injectable.

Recently, I have been experiencing breast pains. According to the Breast Ultrasound Results it is negative from any lumps or any thing which may cause me more pain. I was prescribed of pain killers. I also gained weight since August 2017. I hope to lose those pounds after the removal.

I learned that my cousin Melvar Lazaro RN is trained for Implanon Insertion and Removal. I hurriedly set an appointment with him. We both have weekends as our available time to meet up.

Right after the Implanon was removed, a DMPA was injected to me as my contraceptive for the next 3 months.

Below is the actual video of the Implanon Removal:

I was adviced to take Mefenamic and Amoxicillin for 3 to 5 days. If the laceration is healed on the 3rd day, taking medicines should be stopped.

It is necessary to clean the wound everyday using Betadine then cover with gauze pad. First two days will require elastic bandage for additional support since it is a minor surgery.

Thank you Nurse Melvar and Midwife Dolly (both dedicated health care providers of Caloocan City). They have been always there to help.

Update December 13, 2017

After 2 weeks, there is still slight pain on the part of incision. When I touch the part where there used to be a rod, the touch feels there is still that rod inside though it was COMPLETELY removed. Maybe the flesh inside it was already shaped like a rod in almost 3 years of insertion. The antibiotic has to be stopped, only as prescribed by medical practitioner (5 days). But if the pain is not tolerable, the pain reliever may be continued when needed ONLY.

Goal: Flat Tummy in 14 Days – Did It Work?

I was just browsing Facebook videos and found this very interesting video which says, “Flat stomach in 14 days”. I had second look, third look and fourth look. Hmmmm…. would this work for me? I have to start and check it out myself. And so, the following day, my hubby and I rushed to the supermarket and bought the needed recipes for the cocktail. The ingredients are not cheap but affordable, I can say. It is cheaper than having an operation with Dra. Vicky Belo to achieve a flat tummy. I am having this regimen because it is also My Road to Bora! I have to be ready with my bathing suits and bikini. Let us see! 🏝⛅🏊👙

Below is the recipe and how it should be taken.

Below is the actual image of the recipes I bought. I had 3 of the Grapefruit juice at 1.89L each. I bought them at S&R Congressional.

I documented below my observation based on experience, join me in my everyday journey.

Day 1 – July 21

I measured my tummy by its circumference using a tape measure and weighed in. I noted the numbers on the paper. Let us see if there will be improvement.

Starting measure : 33 inches

Starting weight: 110 lbs

I sipped the cocktail in the morning then at night as instructed. No eewie and eerie smell and taste. Try it!

Day 2 – July 22

I noticed my bowel movement increased in frequency and in volume (not loose). The ACV (Apple Cider Vinegar) started to work. Here is my post about the benefits of drinking the ACV.

Day 3 – July 23

No signs of negative side effects. I became curious and measured my tummy. Guess what? I lost 1 inch! No exercise. I am not kidding. I swear! Let us see the next days. I am planning to add a little exercise to have better results. It is a plan.. 👹

Current measure: 32 inches

Current weight: 108 lbs

Day 4 – July 24

The daily dosage taken, no exercise yet. 😜

Day 5 – July 25

I just continued like the past days. No new effects observed.

Day 6 – July 26

I have to be honest with my readers, I missed my morning and night dosage. I was so hungry that morning. Earlier that evening, we had been to KPub BBQ in BGC. It is a Korean all-meat buffet restaurant. So, yes I had meat-all-you-can that night. But there was that feeling that I was full even before I had only few strips of meat. That is one of the effects of ACV; feeling full. So tired to stir some grapefruit, honey and ACV. You know what my attire was? I tucked in my blouse inside my fitted pants. No fear!🤓

Day 7 – July 27

I had it prepared this time in small cups with cover; my dosage for evening and morning. Because most of the time the honey takes time to be diluted in the grapejuice.

Day 8 – July 28

I forgot to say that I reduced my rice intake from 1 cup to half cup of rice from Day 1. The rice intake is every lunch and dinner only. If you can avoid it, better I guess.

Day 9 – July 29

I continued the advance prep of the dosage in covered cups/glasses. It can make the honey more diluted.

Day 10 – July 30

As I woke up, I measured my tummy and weighed in again. From 110lbs to 105lbs and 33inch belly circumference to 31inch. Not bad right? I had to incorporate exercise; planking and some abs work out perhaps (as advised by my Bes’ brother; Rackwell).

Current measure: 31 inches

Current weight: 105 lbs

Day 11 – July 31

Yesterday was inspiring right? I felt like it could have been better if I started the exercise on Day 1. I’m sorry if I did not post pictures from Day 1 and updates. Since I already have 3 kids, I am so shy to show my tummy with stretch marks. 🤔😐😯😫😔😞😳

I tried to weigh in, just the same. What change shall I expect overnight? Haha..😆

Day 12 – Aug 01

Last few days, hoping for great results…

Day 13 – Aug 02

Buffet no more. Looking towards the last day.

Day 14 – Aug 03

So, here it is. Look at the end measurement.

Current measure: 31 inches

Current weight: 102 lbs

From 110lbs to 102 lbs is 8lbs lost. Then from 32 inches to 30 inches is 2 inches lost. Not bad huh?

So what is the answer? Did it flatten my tummy in 14days? The answer is “NO”. Sorry to disappoint. But I lost some weight. For most of us, it was not easy without any exercise but it happened with me. Whatever happened with me could be different in you. It could have better results. Below is my latest photo. Pardon me. 🌸

Whether it has flattened my tummy or not, the thought that I reduced weight, it already is a big thing. It is not just taking dosage twice a day, it is also about discipline. This regimen will continue, knowing the benefits of ACV in our health. I will update this blog for any improvement. I am excited!

Grapefruit juice for the next days 🍑

Please feel free to share your experience. I am excited to know if there are people who got inspired by this post. 🍎🍷🐝

Know More About the Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV)

I have heard a lot of people telling me about the benefits of ACV (Apple Cider Vinegar) when they started taking it. I myself is a living testimony of the great benefits of ACV. Personally speaking, as of this writing, I recently started to witness its great benefits. It has been 3 days and the effects to me are, improved digestion including the bowel movement (not loose). And I lost an inch from my tummy’s circumference without any exercise. Great right?

We have to be patient with its smell/odor. It could turn your stomach inside out. While, it has a sour taste. Remember the first time you’ve seen your crush? Hahahaha.. 😊 There is a tingling effect.

Credit to owner of image

According to Stacy Goldberg, MPH, RN, BSN, CEO and founder of Savorfull; “Don’t drink it straight, It’s super acidic and could cause harm to your teeth, esophagus, and digestive system.” So, do not attempt to.

Choose the proper ways to drink your daily dosage of your ACV:

1. 150ml of water with 2 teaspoons of ACV

2. 150 ml apple juice/any clear juice with 2 teaspoons of ACV

3. 150ml of water/juice with 2 teaspoons of ACV plus 1 teaspoon of honey

Benefits of Drinking the ACV

  • Apple cider vinegar helps tummy troubles

Try mixing one or two tablespoons into water, or clear juice like apple juice.

  • Apple cider vinegar soothes a sore throat

Just mix 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar with 1/4 cup warm water and gargle every hour or so.

  • Apple cider vinegar could lower cholesterol

A Japanese study found that half an ounce of apple cider vinegar a day lowered cholesterol in people who participated in the panel.

  • Apple cider vinegar prevents indigestion

Sip before eating, especially if you know you’re going to indulge in foods that will make you sorry later. Try this folk remedy: add 1 teaspoon of honey and 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar to a glass of warm water and drink it 30 minutes before you dine.

  • Apple cider vinegar clears a stuffy nose

Next time you’re stuffed up from a cold, grab the apple cider vinegar. It contains potassium, which thins mucus; and the acetic acid in it prevents germ growth, which could contribute to nasal congestion. Mix a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar in a glass of water and drink to help sinus drainage.

  • Apple cider vinegar aids in weight loss

Apple cider vinegar can help you lose weight. Here’s why: The acetic acid suppresses your appetite, increases your metabolism, and reduces water retention. Scientists also theorize that apple cider vinegar interferes with the body’s digestion of starch, which means fewer calories enter the bloodstream.

  • Apple cider vinegar gets rid of dandruff

The acidity of apple cider vinegar changes the pH of your scalp, making it harder for yeast to grow. Mix 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar with 1/4 cup water in a spray bottle, and spritz on your scalp. Wrap your head in a towel and let sit for 15 minutes to an hour, then wash your hair as usual. Do this twice a week for best results.

  • Apple cider vinegar clears acne

Apple cider vinegar makes a great natural toner that can act as a natural home remedy for acne and leave skin looking healthier. Its antibacterial properties help keep acne under control, and the malic and lactic acids found in apple cider vinegar soften and exfoliate skin, reduce red spots, and balance the pH of your skin.

  • Apple cider vinegar boosts energy

Apple cider vinegar contains potassium and enzymes that may relieve that tired feeling. Next time you’re beat, add a tablespoon or two of apple cider vinegar to a glass of chilled vegetable drink or to a glass of water to boost your energy.

  • Apple cider vinegar cuts down on nighttime leg cramps

Leg cramps can often be a sign that you’re low in potassium. Since apple cider vinegar is high in it, one home remedy suggests mixing 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar and one teaspoon honey to a glass of warm water and drink to relieve nighttime leg cramps.

  • Apple cider vinegar banishes bad breath

Gargle with it, or drink a teaspoon (diluted with water if you prefer) to kill odor-causing bacteria.

  • Apple cider vinegar whitens teeth

Gargle with apple cider vinegar in the morning. The vinegar helps remove stains, whiten teeth, and kill bacteria in your mouth and gums. Brush as usual after you gargle.

  • Apple cider vinegar fades bruises

Apple cider vinegar has anti-inflammatory properties; dabbing or laying an apple cider vinegar compress on a bruise can help fade the discoloration.

  • Apple cider vinegar helps control blood sugar

One study of people with type 2 diabetes who weren’t taking insulin found that taking two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar before bed resulted in lower glucose levels by morning. Another study at the Arizona State University found that insulin resistant people who drank a mixture of apple cider vinegar and water before eating a high carbohydrate meal had lower blood sugar afterward. Scientists think the antiglycemic effect of the acid is the key.

Surely there are tons of other benefits in drinking the ACV. Feel free to share on the comment section. You may also tell us your experience with ACV. We are excited to know more about the ACV.

Cancer; The Big C: How it Affects One’s Life?

Cancer Overview:

Cancer, also called malignancy, is an abnormal growth of cells. There are more than 100 types of cancer, including breast cancer, skin cancer, lung cancer, colon cancer, prostate cancer, and lymphoma. Symptoms vary depending on the type. Cancer treatment may include chemotherapy, radiation, and/or surgery. (

I have spoken to a high school batchmate whom I have not seen in a while. She and her husband stayed in the United Kingdom for a while until she learned about her condition. We (me&hubby, Eloisa, Joyce&Joart) visited her in Magalang, Pampanga. She was in perfect condition; a survivor. Her husband and family has been very supportive and caring of her. They have a son who is within elementary level at school.

Below are her answers to the questions we may all have.

1. Who is Marcia in her younger years?

Marcia is a tough girl. She always know what she wants and aims hard for it. She’s impulsive at times but witty to handle things. She never says “NO” to things she wanted especially if it’s for her loved ones.

2. Who are you before Cancer came to your life?

I am a registered nurse. I worked hard, very very hard. I cannot last a day just sitting around. I even worked straight 72 hours. I was cruel to myself being so workoholic.

3. What have you been doing lately?

Two months ago, I worked as a nurse supervisor in a Cancer Unit in Tarlac with my husband and brother. I dedicated myself to those people who were like me; a cancer patient. It gave me fulfillment to serve them and be their inspiration.

4. In your own definition, what is cancer?

Cancer is the worst nightmare that a person can ever have. It’s a great thief. It takes away everything you got.

5. What are the signs of bone marrow cancer?

I actually have stage 4 Bone Cancer which metastasized from my left breast. I first felt unexplainable pain on the affected areas and thought it’s merely out of stress from work. Then, it gets intense as days go by. The pain was getting harder to bear until I get to have excruciating pains already.

6. How did cancer affect your life? Or your future plans?

Cancer destroyed me; my job; a good future for my family. It smashed me to the core including my dreams. But this debilitating illness made me closer to Jehovah God. It made me realize that I should have loved myself first and taken good care of my body. It strengthen my faith to the giver of my life.

7. What good and/or bad memorable experience have you had as a cancer patient?

Ahmm… I’ll start with the best experiences. When I was diagnosed last year for having this Big C, I sought help and strength to our living God, Jehovah. Medidating more on my spiritual aspect helped me realized there’s more in life than work and money. I knew it for a fact but paid no attention to it. Also, I have seen those who are with me on this rough time. Because, when I was strong and able, a lot of people are coming to us. They are all my friends. Now the gray area is so clear, seeing those fake people might be one of the worst experience I get to see. Having cancer won’t give anything good but seeing and feeling the love and goodness of my real friends and family is one good memory that I’ll bring with me when I am gone.

8. How long have you been suffering from bone marrow cancer?

I was diagnosed of stage 3-B breast cancer last May 2016 and around Oct 17 2016 the worst news broke our hearts that I have Mets on bones already. (Bone metastasis is cancer that has spread to the bone. (

9. What are the treatment you had and are into?

I first had MRM (Modified Radical Mastectomy) on my left breast last May 4 2016. Then I had a slight change in my diet but still went back to working a lot of hours. When I had stage 4 BONE CANCER then, I still worked and it did not stop me. Despite of the pain. I only managed it using analgesics. I never wanted chemotherapy or any conventional treatment. Then, I opted for Immunotherapy. Or the alternative/ or natural way of battling cancer. I had a drastic change in my lifestyle. All pure Organic meats, veggies and root crops only. Until now, I am on this regimen.

10. What are your lessons learned and advices to give?

Having this illness already killed me even if am still breathing. I remorse not giving myself the love and attention it needed because I was way too busy thinking about other people’s welfare. I did not even give much time and effort with my sprituality. Being so hooked with my job and absorbing all stress in life’s didn’t do me any good. As the old song goes: “Learn To Love Yourself”. Also as what the Bible says in Romans 5:12, “We will all die because of our inherited sin from Adam, but holding on to your faith and keeping your zeal until your last day with earnest hope for what we do not see will keep us moving on, whether you have a good life or not”.

Wherever life takes you, always make God the center of everything and things will be in it’s best place. As He promised in Revelations 21:4, “Soon all these sufferings will be gone”.

Live your life not the way you think it’s best, but let Jah mold and lead you. Treasure your life, do not let anyone nor anything pull you down. And albeit you reached the end of line, you could say I DID MY BEST and what is RIGHT in the eyes of God.

—End of Interview—

How to Deal with Abusive Relationship?

Good for you for being here! Abusive relationships don’t just fix themselves, and you’re smart enough to know that. Instead of just putting up with it and “waiting until it gets bad enough,” you’re here to get help and make things better.

No matter how bad things are, you’ve got what it takes to make it better. You are smarter, stronger and healthier than you realize. Believe in yourself, and never, ever give up on you!

Whether you are victim, abuser or both, the problems go south real fast when somebody gives up. You just can’t afford to do that.

Relationships are supposed to feel good and make your life better. Don’t settle for anything less than that. You are worthy of loving relationships, even if you’re the one who’s been causing the problems.

You are worthwhile, valuable and good, no matter how you’re feeling right now. And that’s the key to beginning the process of breaking free from abusive relationships.

What Do You Need To Know Right Now?

  • You are a good person, and you deserve to be treated with respect–no matter what. This doesn’t mean you’re perfect, it just means you are human, and worthy of respect.
  • Regardless of who you are or what you’ve done, I have some relationship advice for you–you do not deserve to be abused.
  • You must be willing to take responsibility. That’s where your freedom comes from. It doesn’t mean you’re responsible for the abusive relationship, it just means you are responsible for taking action to protect yourself and others who are being hurt.
  • Assuming you are an adult, you are capable of taking action to improve your situation–you already have! You’re here reading this web page, aren’t you?. One step at a time, and you’ll get there.
  • You are not alone! There are people on this web site that will help you deal with abusive relationships.  Remember, one step at a time!

Leave Abusive Relationships, Or Stay And Keep Trying?

One option is to get out of the relationship. The other is to stay and try to work things out. But first, we have to figure out which is the best option!

Here are some things to consider in making your decision:

  • Are you or anyone being hurt physically?
  • Are you or anyone being sexually abused?
  • Are you or anyone being threatened physically or sexually? Do you or anyone feel your life is in danger?
  • If you are not sure what physical or sexual abuse is, you will find a full description here.

These are “worse case scenarios,” and if you answered “yes” to any or all of the above, you need to find a safe place to go immediately. If you end up getting a divorce, you will need some divorce advice on letting go of a relationship.

There is also emotional or mental abuse. This type of abuse, although it may not seem as extreme as the above, can be just as devastating. Here are some questions to help you decide if you’re being emotionally abused:

    • Do you find yourself afraid of your partner and don’t really know why?
    • Do you feel worse about yourself after or while being with your partner?
    • Does it seem like your partner does not respect your ability to make your own decisions?
    • Does it seem like your partner does not respect you in general?

This type of situation can make start to doubt yourself, and actually interfere with your decision making ability. This can start a downward spiral that just keeps going until you feel that you are not competent to take care of yourself.

Then, if you are actually being abused, you become more and more dependent on the abuser. Not a good thing.

Is It Time For You To Help Yourself?

In order to survive abusive relationships, you must educate yourself. Understanding abusive relationships is a first step, and it will also help you to learn to respect yourself and develop healthy anger.

Healthy anger is based on self-love, and it does not harm anyone. Healthy anger is for the purpose of protecting you and keeping you safe.

Healthy anger fuels effective action!

Here are some thoughts for you to consider:

  • You are a person of value, and you are worthy of kindness and fair treatment.
  • No one has the right to hurt you physically, sexually, emotionally or mentally. Of course we all get hurt somewhat in our love relationships–however, if the harm is being done intentionally and it keeps happening, that’s another thing. That means you are one of the many good souls caught in abusive relationships.
  • You are not alone. There are thousands of people all over the country devoted to helping people just like you to get yourself and your children out of abusive relationships.
  • If you are having anger management problems of your own, you probably need to learn these anger management techniques yourself–especially if you are sometimes abusive to your partner yourself!

Are You Ready To Take Effective Action?

If you know you’re in an abusive relationship, but you’re afraid to do anything, here is the help. It all starts with you. Focusing on the other person will only keep you stuck.

  • This self-focus needs to be positive, because you certainly don’t need anything to make you feel bad about yourself.
  • Help yourself heal emotionally and truly love yourself–because you are your best resource for healing.
  • If you’re married or planning to marry, this is your best beginning point for creating a healthy relationship with your spouse. It really is true that you have to love yourself before you can truly love another…or let them love you.

Never, ever give up on yourself! It is never hopeless, no matter how bad it may seem. You have the courage and the good heart to do what must be done to keep yourself and your children safe, and it all starts with self love.

Does The Abuse Come From Too Much Attachment?

What can you say? Are you one of those being abused? Share anything. Please like my Facebook page for more interesting posts.

What is Battered Woman Syndrome?

This is a condition that you find yourself in with someone you love, or someone you have loved and are afraid to leave.

How did this happen? You never planned for your relationship to turn into a battered wife syndrome. Let’s look at an explanation of how relationships become abusive:

    • The obvious first part is where you fall in love.
    • Then, because you both have unfinished business from your past, old pain and fear is activated over time. This can happen anywhere from the first few days to the first few years, but it happens to virtually all couples.
    • Because of your husband’s issues, he got caught up in trying to control you, and he resorted to physical aggression.
    • You didn’t like it, but you didn’t leave…or you left and came back. And that’s because you love him more than yourself.
    • Things got better, and you hoped for the best, but it happened again, and again, and again.

This may have happened to you in one relationship, or in multiple relationships. The point is that you have gotten caught in a battered wife syndrome pattern in which you’re being abused, and you need help getting out.

images (1)

The battered wife syndrome always involves some kind of verbal abuse, which is inevitably emotional abuse. It’s important to learn about those types of harm in relationships, as well.

How Do You Heal From Battered Wife Syndrome?

That’s the question, isn’t it? Well, hear are some answers for you, below.

Keep in mind that all of these ideas might not apply to you or your situation. You decide what fits best for you, then you love yourself enough to do the right thing.

    • First priority is your physical safety and the physical safety of your children, if there are children involved. Child Protective Services and Family Services agencies in your area will be able to give you contact information for shelters where you can go and be safe from the abuser in your life. If you don’t value yourself enough to seek protection, then at least do it for your children.
    • Next you need to think about breaking the cycle of abuse. The components of the cycle, as you can see in the image, are unmet needs, anxiety, seeking love, finding relief, pleasing and appeasing, control and abuse, anger and fear, reconciliation and “back to normal.”
    • You break the cycle by taking responsibility for your safety (and your children’s safety if they’re part of it), rather than worrying about whether “he will get better” or focusing on the fact that you love him.
    • You break the cycle by respecting yourself enough to only maintain relationships in which you are treated with care and respect. You begin to recognize that you are a good person and you are worthy of respect in your relationships.
      • One of the best ways out of the battered wife syndrome is with healthy anger.
      • Anger is a protective emotion, and you need to have some healthy anger if you and/or your children are being abused. You are your own best

anger management resource.

If you don’t take care of yourself, no one else can! In other words, you have to take the first steps, to reach out for help, then there will be others to help you.

If you just stay in the cycle (read all of the parts carefully, in the image above), the abuse will only get worse, and could even become fatal.

You are a good person, worthy of respect and care!

Hand-Foot-and-Mouth Disease, How Difficult It Can Be with Kids?

Hand-foot-and-mouth disease is common in children but can also occur in adults. It can occur at any time of year but is most common in the summer and fall.It is not the same as other diseases that have similar names: foot-and-mouth disease (sometimes called hoof-and-mouth disease) or mad cow disease. These diseases almost always occur in animals.

What causes hand-foot-and-mouth disease?

Hand-foot-and-mouth disease is caused by a virus called an enterovirus.

The virus spreads easily through coughing and sneezing. It can also spread through infected stool, such as when you change a diaper or when a young child gets stool on his or her hands and then touches objects that other children put in their mouths. Often the disease breaks out within a community.

It usually takes 3 to 6 days for a person to get symptoms of hand-foot-and-mouth disease after being exposed to the virus. This is called the incubation period.

What are the symptoms?

At first your child may feel tired, get a sore throat, or have a fever of around 101°F (38°C) to 103°F (39°C). Then in a day or two, sores or blisters may appear in or on the mouth and on the hands, feet, and sometimes the buttocks. In some cases a skin rash may appear before the blisters do. The blisters may break open and crust over.

The sores and blisters usually go away in a week or so.

In some cases there are no symptoms, or they are very mild. Parents may get the disease from their children and not even realize it.

How is hand-foot-and-mouth disease diagnosed?

A doctor can tell if your child has hand-foot-and-mouth disease by the symptoms you describe and by looking at the sores and blisters. Tests usually aren’t needed.

  • Gamot: Diphenhydramine 125 mg syrup
  • Dosage: 5ml 3x/day for 3 days
  • Gamot: Isoprinosine 125 mg syrup
  • Dosage: 6ml 4x/day for 3 days or 250 mg 3ml
  • Gamot: Calamine lotion
  • Dosage: Affected areas, 2x/day at kung kinakailangan
  • Gamot: Vitamin A capsule 200,000iu

(Last update: Feb 28)

Sana ay magtuloy-tuloy na ang magandang pagbabago. Salamat po sa Panginoon.

Update as of April 7, 2017

English translation:

Have you had a blister?  How was it? Was it because of the shoes you just bought? Does it hurt? What if your legs,  feet, arms and hands have blisters? How difficult that can be with a 2 year old kid? What do you think?

I remember the most recent public place we have been was a fast food chain with red and orange color (I will not mention the name). When the crew cleaned up the table,  he only wiped it with a rag then left. There was not even a disinfectant sprayed on the table.

Our 2 year old son; Fifth started to have rashes and blisters on his legs. I thought it was Impetigo. (Impetigo is  a bacterial infection either caused by Staphylococcus or Streptococcus bacteria.  It is small blisters which will later errupt into wounds.) The best treatment to that is (Mupirocin) Bactroban.  We immediately bought one and applied on the affected area.  Later that day,  rashes were all over his legs.  I was thinking that Impetigo really spreads easily.  Yet,  due to the number of rashes,  I thought it might have been Measles.  But he has Measle shots for that to happen.  It was so itchy as I can see through him,  so I applied cream for itchiness. Also taken Cetirizine to be sure.

On its second day, the rashes spread through his arms and hands.  Its because some blisters wound have dried up,  I assume it is in the process of healing.

On the third day,  his mouth has red sores too.  He has no appetite as well for days. That time,  it got me really confused and told my hubby to bring him to the hospital after his shift. I showed his pictures to my friends. One of my Bes suspected it as HFMD.  On those 3 days,  I bathed him twice a day. I made sure that the affected parts were dry after bath. I used Aveeno Baby Soothing Bath Treatment. It can relieve dry,  itchy and irritated skin. I sprayed Lysol all over the room to kill any bacteria which might intensify the condition.

We consulted Dra. Imelda Gallo,  from her we learned it was not Impetigo but Hand-Foot-and-Mouth Disease. It is contagious and may last for 2 weeks. Thanks doc. The possible severity of the disease was prevented. Also I would like to thank Midwife Dolly Valenzuela of Caloocan Department for the information about HFMD.

It breaks my heart to see him,  all the more when he sees his hands full of blisters. He had difficulty walking since his sole has blisters too. Medicine was prescribed which we hurriedly purchased. I gave the dosage needed. That night,  he was able to sleep peacefully unlike the past 2 nights. I pour hot water into his clothes, towel and linens everyday before laundry. I do this to make sure that the virus are gone before using it again. Below are the prescribed medicine.

  • Medicine: Diphenhydramine 125 mg syrup
  • Dosage: 5ml 3x/day for 3 days
  • Medicine: Isoprinosine 125 mg syrup
  • Dosage: 6 ml 4x/day for 3 days or 250 mg 3ml
  • Medicine: Calamine lotion
  • Dosage: Apply on affected areas, 2x/day and when needed
  • Medicine: Vitamin A capsule 200,000 IU
  • Dosage: Just 1 capsule (pierce to get the content) or equivalent to 200,000 IU of capsules just like the image, 50,000 IU/capsule is available so, we bought 4 capsules

***Remember that the dosage depends on the age and weight of the kid. It is advisable to consult a doctor if symptoms persist.

On day four, improvements were seen such as: 1.  He asked for food.  I gave him a slice of loaf bread. 2. He is gradually being active again. 3. Not irate. Rashes and blisters were still there though he gets to mingle with us just like the normal days.

On day five,  few blisters were smaller and signs of healing through dried wounds can be seen. He is somehow back to his normal activities such as playing around. He also tried to walk (slowly though).

On day six, most of the blisters deflated and some burst by itself. Some dried up like those wounds on the hands and feet.

On day seven, the blisters continued to deflate. On his way to recovery.

On day eight to nine,  the skin started to peel off. Apologies for the hazy pictures. Fifth was actively moving. On its way to recovery. (Last update: Feb 28)

I hope the progress continues. Thank you Lord.

Update as of April 7, 2017

After a few weeks, I saw some of his hand nails falling off. with discoloration.  I got worried because it is unusual. Some are falling  and even elevated from the nail bed. I read from Google and discovered that it usually happens to children who suffered from HFMD. It is called Onychomadesis. This happened because when a child suffers from HFMD, his nails stopped to grow or slowed down. When the child healed or recovered from such, the nails started to grow again. Reason why we can see nails separated from the nails attached to the nail bed. Don’t worry now mommies and daddies.
