A Song of Praise (ASOP) 2015: Delighted and Blessed

My husband invited me to watch this magnificent event at Smart Araneta Coliseum last October 13, 2015. We have been an enthusiast of ASOP since year 2012 but we were not able to watch it LIVE. He plays the song at home while we do the chores and while the kids play. It was like praising God while performing our tasks. When he finally had a chance to get a couple of tickets, he grabbed it. The event was hosted by Richard Reynoso and Toni Rose Gayda.

Since it was almost dinner, we opted to eat first before we watched the event. Not sure if it was Banchetto, I took some pictures of the food available just outside the Smart Araneta Coliseum. Have a look!

A Song of Praise Music Festival or ASOP is the first ever song writing competition on Philippine television that aims to bring back to the lives of people what seems to be lost and forgotten – giving thanks and glory to The Creator amidst the rat race, fear and violence humans are faced with nowadays – a mark that most songwriting competitions do not possess. A brainchild of no less than Mr. Public Service himself, Kuya Daniel Razon, ASOP has been a venue not only for professional songwriters but also for aspiring and budding composers who have their own stories to tell through their songs and musical talents showcased year round. This year’s distinguished judges are: Mr. Mon del Rosario, Ms. Celeste Legaspi, Mr. Jungee Marcelo, Mr. Jet Pangan, Ms. Lachmi Baviera and Mr. C himself; Mr. Ryan Cayabyab. Most of these judges are the pillars of Original Pilipino Music (OPM) whom already made their way worldwide to take pride as Filipino artists. The moment their names were called, I told my husband, “Walang wala ang mga judges, grabe ‘to.” while shaking my head. He agreed.

The judges had a hard time giving the scores to come up with the deserving winners of this year’s A Song of Praise Music Festival. Mr. Ryan Cayabyab said, “Buong gabi para lang akong nanalangin. I was very inspired tonight.”. But, before the winners were announced, we heard few words from Kuya Daniel Razon; “There is a higher level of composing songs and that is writing songs for the One who gave us everything”. He also encouraged composers, “To all of you: composers, singers, just keep on composing and singing praises to the Lord”. While, Bro. Eli Soriano said that, Singing is the highest and oldest form of praise to God.  “According to the Bible, music is older than the universe itself” (Job 38:4-7). “Ang pinakamakapal na libro sa Biblia ay Psalms. Mahalaga po ang pag-awit sa Dios”. “Praise music to God can strengthen our faith, give us hope”. The Over-all servant of MCGI; Bro. Eli Soriano mentioned (not in order). The most-awaited moment has come.. these are the ASOP 2015 winners (drum roll)….!

Song of the Year – Kung Pag-ibig Mo’y Ulan

Congratulations winners! I am sure that more writers and/or composers are inspired to create Praise songs for the next ASOP Music Festival and that include me and my husband. We hope that our song will make it to the next run. To God be the Glory!
