My family and I had to go to Rockwell Nike Stadium to get the Kyrie 2 Australia shoes. It was the only Nike shop with the size that we needed. I thought of Som’s Noodle House since I’ve been missing it for a while. Perfect time because the kids were all present; 3 of them.
We went straight to Algier street and was surprised to see that the building it used to occupy was empty. Saddened but with hope that it still exists. Luckily, I saw 3 men standing outside the building and I asked them where is Som’s located now. One of them was the delivery guy. Maybe he was instructed to stay there to point to people where it is now. And I can say, he fulfilled his purpose. We got the directions. I hurried back to the car with my growling stomach.
Direction from Algier street:
With former Soms on your left, go straight ahead the turn left. Third block turn left then right on first block. It is located at #5883 Enriquez Street, Poblacion, Makati City. On your left with black gate (?).
When we reached the new location of Soms, it looks like it is the owner’s residence converted into a diner. The 2nd floor remains as part of their house. We ordered Bagoong rice and Beef Pad Thai. Unfortunately, the Thai iced tea was not available. Just when I was craving for it.
I finished my meal first. I had a chat with Ms. Eva; the owner of Som’s. I learned a lot from her about Som’s. She is married to Mr. Pat Pattamadilok who is a Thai national. Som’s has been serving people and satisfying our palate for 13 years already. Som is their youngest child among their 3 kids. While, their 2 other kids are in-charge in the kitchen. They (the couple) started as cooks of the Queen and King of Thailand until they came up with the idea of putting up their own diner.
I remember in 2007, their location near Rockwell Mall was just a small house with several tables outside installed with huge umbrellas. I find it amazing that even if their place was small, their food has been really good and their patrons owned the queue of luxury cars parked on the street. Some of which are BMW, Mercedez Benz and Audi. I told myself, this place must be really good. They used to have a branch in Mandaluyong but, was flooded so they closed it.
Through the years they improved and still in the service to satisfy the palate of the Filipino people.
Here are some of the pictures taken during our visit at Som’s.
At the moment, Mr. Pat is sick and got his legs amputated several years back due to diabetes. He is also suffering from stroke. I feel sorry for him but more of being thankful for bringing sumptuous Thai foods in the Philippines with excellent customer service. It won’t hurt to say hello or extend your well wishes to him thru his wife.
See you at Som’s!
